Daughter of deputy sheriff vows to prioritize public safety as population booms.

San Antonio, TX – On Saturday, September 23, 2023, members of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County (DSABC) stood in proud support of Dr. Amanda Gonzalez as she launched her campaign for Bexar County Commissioner, Precinct 1. Addressing a crowd of supporters at an American Legion Post in the heart of San Antonio’s southside, Dr. Gonzalez, whose father has served as a Bexar County deputy for more than three decades, pledged to put the safety of Bexar County residents first by working with law enforcement.

She has our full endorsement,” says DSABC President Ron Tooke. “Precinct 1 residents deserve a commissioner who will listen to their concerns and take public safety seriously. Dr. Gonzalez knows what that means.

I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County,” says Dr. Amanda Gonzalez. “In my precinct, these officers are faced with a rapidly growing population and are doing the best they can with what they have. Without adequate resources and manpower, the time it takes for a deputy to respond to a life-or-death situation gets longer. No family should have to wonder whether law enforcement is really on the way when they call for help. As Commissioner, I will work to give law enforcement what they need to protect our community.”

Challenging first-term incumbent Rebecca Clay-Flores, Dr. Amanda Gonzalez has served in several public policy and nonprofit positions, and is currently the Executive Director for Blue Cares, the non-profit organization to the San Antonio Police Officers Association. She holds a BA from Baylor University in Political Science and MA from St. Mary’s University in International Relations with a concentration on Conflict Resolution and her PhD from Texas Tech University in Educational Leadership Policy.
