This past Saturday, ACT DSABC, the charitable arm of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County, hosted its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at the Frost Bank Center, with sponsors Commissioner Tommy Calvert, the Neighborhoods First Alliance, and Texas Towing. We provided holiday meals to more than 330 families across Bexar County. Each family received a turkey, potatoes, and a range of additional food items, with Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages generously donating drinks to complete each meal package.
More than 40 volunteers of all ages came out to serve their neighbors, helping ensure the event ran smoothly—even with two other major events taking place simultaneously at the Frost Bank Center. Their teamwork and coordination kept the line moving and spirits high throughout the morning.
This year’s demand was especially strong. With inflation, higher living costs, and cuts to essential benefits continuing to affect the most vulnerable residents of Bexar County, many families relied on community support to help make Thanksgiving possible.
“We see the impact of rising costs every day,” said Veronica Drake, Chair of ACT DSABC. “Families are facing tough choices, and our goal is to make sure no one has to choose between a holiday meal and paying the bills. That’s why we do this work—and why we’re so grateful to every partner and volunteer who showed up for our community.”
ACT DSABC extends its heartfelt thanks to every volunteer, partner organization, and donor who helped make this year’s giveaway a success. Together, we continue to lift up families, strengthen neighborhoods, and ensure that kindness remains at the center of community life in Bexar County.
