Hundreds of local families gathered at Dellview Park on Saturday, August 9 for a Back to School Bash hosted by ACT (the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County (DSABC) Foundation) and Bexar County Precinct 2 Commissioner Justin Rodriguez. Special support was also provided by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Javier Salazar’s leadership. The event brought the community together to ensure children start the school year prepared and confident.

More than 150 children received free backpacks and essential school supplies, helping to ease the financial burden many families face this time of year. In addition, local barbers volunteered their time and talent to provide free haircuts, giving students a fresh start for the new academic year.

Deputy sheriffs, ACT volunteers, and community members worked side-by-side to distribute the supplies and greet families. The event underscored the strong partnership between law enforcement, local government, and neighborhood organizations in supporting area youth.

“This is what community is all about—coming together to lift up our kids,” said Commissioner Justin Rodriguez. “We want every student in Bexar County to walk into their first day of school feeling ready to succeed.”

“Keeping our community safe starts with building trust and relationships, especially with our youngest residents,” said Veronica Drake, Director of ACT. “By helping families prepare for the school year, we’re not just handing out supplies—we’re showing that public safety is about caring for the whole community, in and out of uniform.”

The Back to School Bash is part of a continuing effort by ACT, the DSABC Foundation, and Commissioner Rodriguez’s office to engage directly with residents and provide tangible resources that strengthen Bexar County’s communities. When you support ACT, you are supporting your community and all those who are a part of it.
