Recent mailer to voters claims she voted for new deputy positions, despite voting against them.

As the runoff election for the Bexar County Precinct 1 Commissioner seat approaches, voters recently received a mailer from Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores’ campaign for reelection, in which she claims to have voted in favor of 64 new deputy sheriff positions. This is simply a lie.

On April 18th, 2023, the Bexar County Commissioners Court considered an agenda item for creating 50 new patrol positions, in addition to bringing 12 positions out of contingency. Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores voted against the 50 new positions.

Her excuse was that she had been left out of the discussions. Aside from being a poor reason for denying her residents public safety, it also leaves out the fact that she has always refused to meet with current DSABC leadership since it came into office in 2022.

In the same mailer, Commissioner Clay-Flores touted her role in creating the new Northwest substation, located on Old Talley Rd in Alamo Ranch. We welcome any increase in deputy presence in this area, which is a wasps’ nest of car burglaries and break-ins. 20% of all car burglaries recorded in the County took place in Alamo Ranch in July 2023, many of them conducted by armed, and dangerous individuals. But this new substation is merely one room inside of a fire station, where the BCSO barely manages to keep a presence. Rarely will you ever see a deputy vehicle parked outside of it.

The residents of Precinct 1 deserve better and we can’t remain silent while Commissioner Clay-Flores spreads disinformation about her public safety record. Don’t believe her lies. Vote for Amanda Gonzalez for Precinct 1 Bexar County Commissioner.
